The Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), May 24-26, 2018

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) (https://www.forumspb.com/en/) is a unique event in the world of business and economics. SPIEF has been held since 1997, and since 2006, it has been held under the auspices of the President of the Russian Federation, who has also attended each event.
Over the last 20 years, the Forum has become a leading global platform for members of the business community to meet and discuss the key economic issues facing Russia, emerging markets, and the world as a whole.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is an effective platform for discussion and a tool which can be used to resolve some of the most pressing issues in a large number of fields.
The interest shown by the global business community, heads of international organizations, officials, experts, scientists, and the media in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum grows every year, as does the number of countries from which participants are drawn.

SPIEF 2017 brought together more than 14,000 participants from 143 countries. Among the attendees were the heads of 700 Russian and 400 international companies. Companies from the USA, Germany, China, Italy, Japan, and other countries were widely represented.
The Forum was also attended by high-ranking foreign politicians including the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Secretary-General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), the Prime Ministers of India, Gabon, Mongolia, and Dominica, the Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, the Vice President of Zimbabwe, the Second Vice President of Burundi, the President of South Ossetia, the President of Republika Srpska, and other government officials.
The key event on the SPIEF 2017 business programme was the plenary session Capitalizing on the New Global Economic Reality, attended by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. The SPIEF programme featured 127 events, including panel sessions, roundtables, TV debates, business breakfasts, and business dialogues. After a three-year break, the business dialogue between Russia and the USA returned to the Forum and was attended by Vladimir Putin.
Forum side events included a B20 meeting, BRICS and SCO summits, and a special session on the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students in Sochi. SPIEF has now become a regular meeting place for Noble Prize laureates, who held a special session, ‘New Frontiers in Scientific Advancement’, in cooperation with the Russian Academy of Science.
The Forum featured 88 cultural and sporting events.
SPIEF 2017 saw the signing of 475 investment agreements, memorandums, and statements of intent, worth a total of RUB 1,817.9 billion (excluding those whose amounts are confidential).
